Can Fashion be Earth Friendly?
Ivy and Envy was born out of love and excitement for life. The adventure of creating a brand and making a mark in this amazing world is an irresistible pull. Making a mark is only worthwhile if it is a positive one though. From the start, we saw the need to operate in a way that was in alignment with our responsibility to minimize our carbon footprint while still growing the brand and making an impact.
What is a carbon footprint?
As Wikipedia states; "A carbon footprint is historically defined as the total emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent." Read more here.
What does it mean for us?! It means that every choice we make in our business ads to the burden we put on the planet. Every shopping bag, piece of packing(even recyclables), unused storage and wasted material has a consequence. Seem like overkill? The short answer is no. Every little bit adds up to a lot, which is why the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world.
We have the power.
We have realized that the power to change is in our hands. Changing the culture surrounding fashion and clothing happens one brand at a time, bit by bit. You are reading this now and maybe you're on board, maybe not. But we know that some of you have already bought into the fact that where you put your money is a reflection of your values.
Is it possible to find a balance between pleasing our valued customer and having a business that can thrive and grow while also being a source of change in the fashion industry? We think it is definitely worth trying. Let us know how we are doing!
